CNC machined plastic chain guide profiles

Engineering the Right Material for Every Guide

Plastic chain guides require specific combinations of wear resistance, low friction, and dimensional stability. We machine the grades below in both unfilled and reinforced variants.

  • POM — high stiffness, low friction, excellent machinability for wear strips.
  • UHMW-PE — outstanding abrasion resistance and impact strength for sliding contact.
  • Nylon 6 & 66 — good toughness and fatigue resistance for curved rails.

CNC Processes Applied to Chain Guides

Most chain guide profiles are produced on 3-axis and 5-axis milling centers. Straight and curved sections receive machined channels, mounting holes, and end features in a single setup.

Turning is used for cylindrical or annular guide components. Drilling, tapping, and slotting operations are completed during the same cycle to maintain positional accuracy.

3-Axis & 5-Axis Milling

Channels, mounting holes, and end features machined in a single setup.

CNC Turning

Cylindrical and annular guide components with tight concentricity.

Drilling & Tapping

Completed in-cycle to preserve positional accuracy across features.

Slotting

T-slots, dovetails, and parallel tracks machined without secondary ops.

Typical Tolerances & Surface Requirements

Chain guides commonly require tight control on critical mounting surfaces, with straightness and flatness held across the full length. We document first-article inspection and can supply material certificates on request.

Critical mounting surfaces ±0.05 mm
Overall length (up to 1500 mm) ±0.1 mm
Straightness & flatness 0.1 mm / meter
Sliding contact finish 1.6 µm Ra
Non-functional faces 3.2 µm Ra

Design Features We Machine Regularly

  • 01 Wear strips with integrated T-slots or dovetail mounting
  • 02 Curved guide rails with radiused transitions
  • 03 Segmented guides for modular conveyor sections
  • 04 Guides with embedded metal inserts or threaded inserts
  • 05 Profiles with multiple parallel tracks for multi-lane systems

These features are produced without secondary operations when the part geometry allows.

Project Types That Suit CNC Production

CNC machining fits prototype quantities, low-volume runs, and repeat orders where injection molding is not economical. It also suits replacement parts for older equipment and designs that require material changes after initial field testing. Parts with complex contours or frequent design revisions are handled efficiently because no tooling is required.

Industries That Source These Components

Equipment builders in food processing, pharmaceutical packaging, automotive assembly, and semiconductor handling regularly order plastic chain guides.

  • Food processing equipment
  • Pharmaceutical packaging lines
  • Automotive assembly conveyors
  • Semiconductor handling systems
  • Logistics, bottling, and robotic transfer stations

Buyers in these sectors typically need consistent material traceability and export packaging that prevents surface damage during transit.

Quality & Documentation Practices

Each batch receives in-process checks on critical dimensions. Final inspection includes visual review for machining marks and verification of hole positions. Parts are packed in custom foam or cardboard separators according to customer specifications.

In-Process Checks

Critical dimensions verified throughout the run.

Final Inspection

Visual review and hole position verification.

Export Packaging

Custom foam or cardboard separators to prevent surface damage.

Documentation

Inspection reports, material data sheets, RoHS or REACH declarations on request.
