Custom Plastic V-Groove Wheels CNC Machined to Drawing
Plastic V-groove wheels run on linear tracks or rails in automation, material handling and packaging equipment. They are produced by CNC machining rather than molding when the required material, groove angle or batch size makes tooling uneconomic.
- Outer Diameter
- 20–300 mm
- Groove Angle
- 30°–120°
- Batch Size
- 1–500 pcs
Materials Commonly Used for V-Groove Wheels
Customers select the polymer based on load, speed, chemical exposure and wear life. PlasticCNCPro routinely machines the following grades for these wheels.
POM / Acetal
Low friction and good dimensional stability for consistent groove geometry.
Nylon 6 / 66
Including glass-filled and oil-filled versions for added strength and reduced friction.
UHMW-PE
High impact and abrasion resistance for demanding track environments.
HDPE & PVC
Lower-cost, lighter-duty options for less demanding applications.
PEEK / PPS
For elevated temperature or aggressive chemical environments.
CNC Machining Process for V-Groove Profiles
Each wheel starts from bar or plate stock. The outer diameter, V-groove angle and hub bore are turned or milled in one or two setups.
-
1
Stock preparation & primary turning
Bar or plate stock is set up, then outer diameter, V-groove angle and hub bore are turned or milled in one or two setups.
-
2
Secondary operations
Drilling mounting holes, tapping, slotting and adding flat spots or keyways.
-
3
Surface finish control
Groove surface finish is controlled to reduce rolling resistance and particle generation.
-
4
Final inspection & packing
Parts are inspected for roundness, groove symmetry and bore tolerance before packing.

When Machined V-Groove Wheels Are the Practical Choice
Machining suits projects that need a non-standard groove angle, a filled or specialty polymer not offered in molded blanks, or quantities too low for injection molding. It also serves as a fast route to functional prototypes before committing to mold tooling. Replacement wheels for older machinery often fall into this category because original drawings specify dimensions that molded stock items cannot match.
Project Examples Handled by PlasticCNCPro
-
80 mm POM wheels with 90° groove for semiconductor wafer handling tracks
-
UHMW-PE wheels 150 mm diameter for food-grade conveyor side guides
-
Glass-filled nylon wheels with keyed bore for robotic transfer carts
-
PEEK wheels for chemical wash-down stations operating at 180 °C
Request a Quotation
Send the part drawing or 3D model together with material preference, annual quantity and any special requirements such as groove surface finish or marking. PlasticCNCPro reviews the file for manufacturability and returns a fixed quotation with lead time. Samples are produced first when requested. All shipments include inspection reports and export packaging suitable for sea or air freight.
