Custom Plastic Shaft Sleeves
Plastic shaft sleeves protect rotating shafts from wear, reduce friction, and provide electrical or chemical isolation. Ideal for small to medium quantities where injection molding is not practical.
Materials Commonly Used for Shaft Sleeves
We machine shaft sleeves from a range of thermoplastics selected for the operating conditions. Filled grades with glass, carbon fiber, or PTFE additives are available when additional strength or lubricity is required.
POM
General wear resistance for demanding mechanical contact.
UHMW-PE
Low friction sliding against rotating or reciprocating shafts.
PTFE
Chemical exposure and aggressive media resistance.
PEEK
Higher temperature performance and mechanical strength.
PPS
Dimensional stability in moist environments.
Filled Grades
Glass, carbon fiber, or PTFE additives for extra strength or lubricity.
CNC Machining Process for Plastic Shaft Sleeves
We produce these components on CNC turning centers and milling machines. Parts receive final inspection for concentricity, wall thickness, and surface finish before packing.
-
1
Bar or sheet stock
Material selected and prepared for machining.
-
2
Rough turning
Bulk material removed to near-net geometry.
-
3
Finish turning of IDs and ODs
Inner and outer diameters brought to tolerance.
-
4
Secondary operations
Drilling, tapping, or slotting as required.
-
5
Final inspection
Concentricity, wall thickness, and surface finish verified before packing.
Typical Parameters for Machined Plastic Shaft Sleeves
| Parameter | Standard Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Outer diameter | 6 mm – 250 mm | Larger diameters possible on request |
| Inner diameter | 3 mm – 200 mm | Concentricity held to 0.03 mm typical |
| Length | 5 mm – 300 mm | Longer parts quoted case by case |
| Wall thickness | 1.5 mm minimum | Thinner walls require material review |
| Tolerance on diameters | ±0.05 mm standard, ±0.02 mm tight | Material and geometry dependent |
| Surface finish | Ra 1.6 µm standard, Ra 0.8 µm optional | Polishing available for sealing surfaces |
| Runout | 0.05 mm typical | Measured on finished part |
When Machined Plastic Shaft Sleeves Fit Your Project
These parts suit applications where metal sleeves would corrode, add weight, or create electrical shorts. If your design requires quick changes during development or runs below the volume needed for molding, CNC machining provides the needed flexibility without tooling cost.
