Material Options for Washers

We machine washers from POM, Nylon 6/6, UHMW-PE, PEEK, PTFE, PPS, and filled grades. Selection depends on required chemical resistance, temperature range, load-bearing capacity, and moisture absorption limits. We review application details to recommend grades that maintain flatness and dimensional stability after machining.

POM

Balanced stiffness and low friction for general mechanical washers.

Nylon 6/6

Tough and wear-resistant for load-bearing and impact-prone assemblies.

UHMW-PE

Excellent abrasion resistance and low friction for sliding contact.

PEEK

High temperature and chemical resistance with tight-tolerance capability.

PTFE

Near-universal chemical inertness and the lowest friction of the group.

PPS

Dimensionally stable under heat and moisture, suited to precision bores.

Filled Grades

Glass, carbon, or PTFE fillers to tune strength, creep, and lubricity.

Selection Support

Share your application conditions and we recommend a grade that holds flatness after machining.

CNC Processes Applied to Washers

Washers begin as bar, sheet, or rod stock. Each operation is chosen to match the geometry and the material's machining behavior.

Typical starting stock

Bar · Sheet · Rod

  • 01

    Milling

Creates outer diameters and inner bores in one setup for consistent concentricity.

  • 02

    Turning

Handles concentric features on round parts with repeatable diameter control.

  • 03

    Drilling, Tapping & Countersinking

Adds mounting holes, threads, or recessed seats when the design requires them.

  • 04

    Slotting

Produces keyways or alignment features on request.

Tolerances and Dimensional Control

Standard production holds ±0.05 mm on diameters and thicknesses for most polymers. Tighter requirements down to ±0.02 mm are available on PEEK and PPS parts. We check flatness, parallelism, and concentricity on every batch using coordinate measuring equipment before release.

Flatness Parallelism Concentricity CMM Inspection

Standard Range

±0.05 mm

Diameters and thicknesses across most polymers.

Tight Range

±0.02 mm

Available on PEEK and PPS parts.

Surface and Edge Requirements

Machined faces receive standard finishes suitable for sealing against metal or plastic mating surfaces. We can add chamfers, radii, or polished edges where washers contact moving components. Deburring removes all sharp corners to prevent installation damage or particle generation.

Finish Options

  • Standard machined finish for sealing against mating surfaces
  • Chamfers and radii on contact edges
  • Polished edges for moving-component contact
  • Full deburring to remove sharp corners and reduce particle generation

Volume and Project Fit

Prototype orders start at five pieces. Low-volume runs cover 50 to 500 units. Repeat production supports monthly or quarterly releases with consistent material lot tracking. This route suits equipment builders who need parts before committing to molds or who require modifications to existing designs.

Industry Uses

Plastic washers appear in pump housings, valve assemblies, semiconductor handling fixtures, medical device frames, and food-processing conveyors. They replace metal versions where corrosion, weight, or electrical isolation matters. We have supplied parts for automation grippers, optical mounts, and chemical-resistant seals.

Selecting the Right Approach

CNC machining suits washers with complex profiles, non-standard IDs, or materials that do not injection-mold well. It also works when annual volumes stay below several thousand units or when designs change frequently. We compare lead times and costs against molding options during quotation.

Choose CNC When

Complex profiles, non-standard IDs, hard-to-mold polymers, or frequently changing designs.

Compare at Quotation

We weigh lead time and cost against molding for annual volumes below several thousand units.
